Topic: Security, Communities, and Police
Speakers:
Glenn Frankovis, retired Milwaukee Captain of Police
Cindy Werner, Veteran, Brew City Republican Women’s Club, Frederick Douglas Republicans
Glenn has written a book about Area Saturation Patrol: A Policing Strategy That Works, designed to conduct on-going active patrols of Police District (neighborhood) crime hot spots. This strategy has a proven record of success reducing crime and increasing community well-being. Glenn also weighed in on Voter Fraud back in 2009!
New captain's Metcalfe Park strategy would drive criminals away: JAMES H. BURNETT III of the Journal Sentinel staff reports, “One Police Department supervisor said that in the early 1990s Frankovis' team "tenderized" Latin Kings gang members, who used to terrorize the near south side, by keeping them guessing where his police "strike squad" would show up next… "What my hope is what we do is make this an inhospitable environment . . . for the formation of gangs or any other criminal activity," Frankovis said. "I want criminals to be afraid to walk down the street. I don't want the decent people who live in this district to be afraid."
Glenn also weighed in on Voter Fraud back in 2009!
Given this past year, there are LOTS of issues that Glenn can discuss with us.
Do you have questions about how to deter riots? What citizens can do to protect their property?
Public Commentary on this subject:
New captain's Metcalfe Park strategy would drive criminals away
Does Wisconsin Lock Up Too Many Blacks? by John McAdams
Data studies reported. An Incident Based Reporting System. A true story.
Cindy is tireless in her efforts to make America great again. She has many irons in the fire. I can’t wait to hear about them and to get reconnected with the ideas and happenings of Frederick Douglass Republicans.
For those of you who’ve been with us a while, you may remember May, 2015 when KCarl Smith joined us to share an uplifting, unifying message of:
In addition, we also have a unique opportunity to hear first-hand eyewitness testimony and see slides covering the recent Washington DC rally that’s making all the news.

DATE: January 21, 2021
Topic: Riots. Socialism. Truth.
Speakers:
Yuri Maltsev, Professor of Economics, A.W. Clausen Center for World Business, Carthage College, and Senior Fellow of the Mises Institute
Washington DC Rally Participant, SRWC member with slideshow
We are thrilled that our friend Dr. Yuri Maltsez, a senior fellow at the Mises Institute and a professor of Economics at Carthage College in Kenosha, joined us again! Yuri is famous for having been a Soviet economist during the Gorbachev era and defecting to the United States. He’s kept us enlightened and informed over the years and is graciously returning to let us know what he thinks should be on our radar!
Yuri’s work has involved briefing members of Congress and senior officials at the executive branch on issues of national security and foreign economics. He’s also appeared on numerous television and radio programs, authored books, and lectured all over the world.
He spoke of Demographics, Statehood, and Schools (along with PBS and Dominion voting machines!) being key elements in what we have working against us. Yuri's no-nonsense way of stating things came through load and clear: “science today is opinion, not science,” “socialism without violence doesn’t work,” “dictatorship of the mind,” “slavery equals decisions made for you, not by you,” and so many more.
We also enjoyed his humor! He told a great "story" about James Bond on assignment during retirement collecting data in the Sovi*t Union -- the story involved Bond visiting various establishments and writing down what the status of what he'd seen. For example, at a bakery where there was no bread, Bond wrote down no bread. Shoe store? no shoes, and on and on. Finally accosted by a "policeman," he was told he was lucky he'd not been doing that last year, because he'd have been shot, to which Bond wrote down "no bull*ts." Other stories helped bring to life what it means to live in a society where you do not have the freedom to make decisions, but have them made for you.
We were also excited to hear first-hand eyewitness testimony of the recent Washington DC rally that made all the "news." We also saw slideshows of how disinformation and censorship have been promulgated and disseminated.
Election integrity must be restored.
We the people are the answer.

TOPIC: Riots, Freedom and Voting
SPEAKER(s)
Kimberly Warner, Outspoken, Fearless Entrepreneur
Bob Spindell, 4th Congressional District GOP chairman
Kimberly was featured in this new pro-Trump television ad. Her store, Authentique, is located in the heart of downtown Kenosha, and she was one of the first businesses to re-open after the recent violence. Rioters tried to break into her business (footage in the ad), but the store windows held strong.
Kimberly bravely decided to speak out against Joe Biden and the violence condoned by the Left ... and right on cue, deranged liberals began attacking her once the ad started airing. From organizing efforts to "cancel" her business to awful attacks thrown at Kimberly, her children, and her staff, it's a classic intimidation tactic. Despite all this, she isn't backing down and we are thrilled to have her join us to share her story.
Bring some cash or a check, because we may have a table of potential gifts for yourselves or others to purchase!
Bob is fired up and ready to share his news with us! He will provide a detailed overview about all things GOP and voting in our area. He knows the inside scoop on what’s happening in the courts to protect our vote, voting protocols, the sausage-making behind counting votes, and events to support victory in November!

Exploit No More and Grateful Girls The topic of Human Trafficking is gaining traction at both the Federal and state level. After that half-time show on Sunday (I won’t even link to photos) and what they are promoting as sex ed in schools – is it any surprise that young women can be bamboozled into horrific situations? Do what it takes to be informed and join with others to learn about, discuss, and support efforts to expose and eradicate this hideous affront to freedom and individual rights. Not a bad way to help preserve our values and keep America the shining city on the hill. Join us! |

Topic: WILL on Impeachment, Voter Rolls, and More Speaker: Lucas Vebber, WILL Attorney The Wisconsin Institute of Law and Liberty (WILL) works tirelessly to “advance the public interest in the rule of law, individual liberty, constitutional government, and a robust civil society”, including the integrity of the election process. You may have heard WILL on the radio, we heard them in person! We were informed, so we can advance the debate on law and public policy and help others learn more about an issue important to our present and future when the topic comes up. Not a bad way to help preserve our values! |
December 19, 2019
Topic: Update with Scott Walker Curious what this champion of freedom and economic prosperity has to say? We heard stories that inspired us to want to visit the Reagan Ranch with its wonderful combination of freedom and frugality. We also were uplifed by hearing how College Republicans (so helpful with grassroots organizing of campaigns), Turning Point USA (a terrific outlet for identifying and supporting conservatives on campus and getting conservatives on campus boards), and Young America's Foundation (building a philosophically-like-minded base of conservative thinkers) all work together to advance and support this great experiment we are on. We heard a bit about 2/3 states Convention |

Topic: Education and Taxes
Speakers:
Dr. Duke Pesta, Director of FreedomProject Academy & Media | Host of Dr. Duke Show l Professor of English | Speaker, Author, Teacher
Leah Vukmir, Vice President of State Affairs for the National Taxpayers Union
Just hearing "Duke and Leah" was enough for most people to RSVP immediately!
We were thrilled Duke could make it back again. Education is still powered by government and its bureaucrats and not by local citizens and teachers. Unfortunately, too many Republicans at the state and national level still don't get it. We heard about the Trump Administration Proposal to Merge Education, Labor Departments. Leading conservative education activists, including Duke, have argued the plan fundamentally misunderstands the purpose of education.
We also got updated on the investigation into his daring to speak of biology in English class. It's a treat hearing him regularly on the Vicki McKenna show, as well as listen to him discuss various hot topics on the Dr. Duke Show, including:
We loved welcoming Leah as WI State Representative and Senator, and now as Vice President of State Affairs for the National Taxpayers Union! Continuing to defend taxpayers, she's working with state legislators and policymakers to promote pro-taxpayer policy at the state and local level from state budgets to income and property taxes to pension reform.

Bradley is a clinical psychologist and, in the article, we learn he advocates for integrating trauma-informed care into re-entry programs, which is how he came to know Brian Hagedorn. We hope that an ongoing and informed conversation will eventually create a path for meaningful reforms at the state level. The Trump administration is currently pursuing prison reform, but it only applies to federal prisons. We as Wisconsin citizens need to pursue our own reforms at the state level.
Last month gave us a solid foundation of what prison reform should NOT look like and involve. This month we gained insight into how it might work and under what circumstances. The informative conversation started with stats and some perspective on them, then moved into an organic discussion exploring realities, concerns, and hopes for the future.
There are approximately 24,000 people currently incarcerated in Wisconsin. Of those, only 5% have life sentences. For those who claim, “Prison reform will just overwhelm our communities with felons,” here is a fact: 95% will eventually be released back into the community even without reforms.
There are approximately 66,000 former Wisconsin prison inmates currently living in the community. Of those:
We heard about young, non-violent inmates being paired with violent lifetime felons who are sexual predators. About mental health professionals stymied in their jobs by bureaucrats who know nothing about mental health. About rehab training occurring six months prior to release, no matter how long the sentence served. About not providing mental health treatment immediately upon entering and throughout a sentence period. About two grown men who are poorly paired (by people ignorant/ignoring of mental health issues) being squeezed into a small cell designed to restrict one person. About security officers who do a good job -- and a few really bad apples who should be culled and kept from exacerbating the problem for everyone. About men trained and certified at taxpayer expense in prison being released and prevented of doing that work due to regulations and licensing requirements.About how rural areas (where prisons are generally located) are outnumbered by inmates and could be devastatingly impacted by allowing felons to vote. About how Musl*m outreach far outpaces Christian outreach. About how dogs and horses provide the non-judgemental, unconditional therapy needed to reach the inner core of a human soul. About how mental health professionals work to provide that and more!
Let's keep the learning and conversation alive!

- 70% are age 21-45
- 53% live in Southeastern Wisconsin
- 14% are categorized as “high risk”
- Making sure they are being provided adequate treatment for trauma, addiction, and other mental health disorders throughout their incarceration and while under community supervision.
- Helping them prepare for and successfully connect with workable vocational opportunists once released.
- Creating a truly corrective environment that will better allow them to learn how to develop and maintain healthy, prosocial relationships before and after their release into the community.

Topic: Crime, Prison Reform, and More
Speaker: Steve Spingola, Retired MPD Detective, Gateway Technical College Professor, Cold Justice star and consultant
Steve Spingola is former homicide investigator with a national reputation for excellence, Steve served as a Lieutenant Detective of the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), supervising all major categories of criminal investigations, including stints in the Homicide Unit, Vice Control Division, Sensitive Crimes Unit, and Violent Crimes Division. He further served as the lead investigator for the Critical Incident Unit, a group that probes police-related shootings, use-of-force incidents, and other significant events.
As a detective, Steve spent several years conducting death investigations for a homicide unit with one of the highest clearance rates in the country. He was heavily involved in the high-profile case of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. He is also the author of Best of Spingola Files, Vol. 1, Predators of the Parkway: a Former Homicide Detective Explores the Colonial Parkway Murders, and Staggered Paths: Strange Deaths in the Badger State. Steve is also prominently mentioned in two well regarded true crime books: You Gotta Be Dirty: The Outlaws Motorcycle Club In & Around Wisconsin and The Milwaukee Mafia: Mobsters in the Heartland. All books are available at Amazon.
Known to his colleagues as “the sleuth with the proof,” Spingola now stars on Oxygen's Cold Justice, a popular Oxygen Channel true crime program. Steve will discuss the state of the Milwaukee Police Department and crime, prison reform (a hot topic for the 2020 election), and answer any questions about his show, Cold Justice. A fan of the show exclaims: “I can’t recommend Cold Justice enough. It’s not sensationalized, and it’s very victims-first.”
Steve gave us a clear view of why hardened, violent criminals should not be released back into society. He has seen people's lives ruined and taken away by violent felons deemed eligible to return to society before their serving their full sentence. Violent criminals who make violent choices come in all sizes, shapes, and ages -- and should not be considered as subjects for prison reform.

Topic: Politically Incorrect Defending Freedom of Speech (What?!) Speaker(s): Dr. John McAdams, Political Science Professor Marquette University Ozaukee County Circuit Court Judge Candidates: Angela Foy, James Wawrzan, Mark Larson, and Steve Cain Four experienced candidates introduced themselves and defended the rule of law and civil system of jurisprudence. We’ve been following John McAdams’ story since 2011 when he first spoke to us about the trials of being conservative and supporting conservative students on a campus. He teaches courses in American Politics, Public Policy, Elections and Voter Behavior, and the JFK assassination. John won a landmark lawsuit last Fall in the Wisconsin Supreme Court over Marquette’s attempt to fire him over a blog post exposing an instructor who told a student that expressing opposition to gay marriage would not be allowed. The settlement allows him to return to the Marquette faculty with unimpaired rank and tenure and be on sabbatical for the fall semester of the 2018-2019 school year to complete his book: 60 Politically Incorrect Things You Should Know. One of our members heard Troy interviewed by Glenn Beck and was brought to tears hearing the story of a decorated military vet who spent his last days in a nursing home and, upon his passing away with no family, would have had no funeral. Many in our membership understand the stress and hardship involved when veterans pass away. Update: We are so sorry that Troy passed away and DogTag Furniture with him. |

Topic: Prepping for Disaster: Civil Society Insurance Speakers: Ann Selzer, not just a doctor! Expert with prepping, go-bags, and more! Taylor Zeinert, Young Republican at Carroll University (and a member’s granddaughter!) Dr. Ann Selzer understands the impact that disasters can have on people’s lives and societies. Take Venezuela as an extreme example. The inflation rate is expected to hit 13,000% in 2018 and society has been reduced to government persecution or massive migration to escape suffering. While individuals can hardly prepare themselves to withstand and outlast every crisis; we can all prepare to outlast the worst of most. Imagine the impact if everyone equipped themselves with the skills and supplies to take care of their immediate families when times got tough. Tough times might include a lay-off, disability, natural disaster, a power outage. Not to be alarmist, but Ted Koppel, in his book Lights Out, reveals that a devastating cyberattack on America’s power grid is not only possible but likely and that the United States is shockingly unprepared. What happens if the worst doesn’t happen? You have peace of mind and supplies on hand to eat and use at your leisure. Come hear an expert's advice and insight into the world of being prepared. Leave with the knowledge of what you can do to ensure your family's ability to weather a storm. |
Talk about timing! A full-scale training exercise simulating a long-term mass power outage in Wisconsin kicks off May 15 at sites around the state. Known as Dark Sky, the exercise runs May 15-17 in Brown, Calumet, Dane, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties and will test the abilities of private utilities, law enforcement, first responders and the National Guard to respond to the scenario as well as its second and third order effects

Speakers:
Malissa Misch, MK Protection Strategies
Susan Hitchler, defender of the right to bear arms, veteran keynote speaker and training consultant
Malissa is the owner of MK Protection Strategies and a certified NRA gun instructor. She has seen first-hand the rise of women’s interest in crime prevention awareness, self-defense strategies, workplace security, and personal development.
Susan spoke to us in 2016 about her case of unconstitutional judicial activism. She refused then to cede her constitutional right to self-defense and continues today writing a book about her experience of being criminally charged twice for no legal reason. She’s done massive amounts of research on prosecutor misconduct as well as the prejudice against those of us who choose to live our second amendment rights, which she will share with us.
Please join us for another terrific program in April back at the Wisconsin Club. Invite friends and family! Your goodwill, questions, & friends are always welcome!

Topic: Transparency Matters
Speaker: Bruno Behrend, J.D.
American Transparency founder and board member, blogger at ExtremeWisdom.com, former senior fellow for education policy at The Heartland Institute
Bruno Behrend: Get Government Out of Schools (Hear his speech to our group!)
On Thursday, October 19, Bruno Behrend, senior fellow, spoke to the Suburban Republican Women's Club Milwaukee in Milwaukee, WI to 50 attendees. Bruno opened with a quip, “Common Core is bad. Government regulations on education are bad. Get your children out of public schools.”
Bruno Behrend is a modern conservative revolutionary – his experience spans across many topics we delve into at our meetings – from school reform and the government-education complex to political strategy and voter messaging to government transparency and waste.
Devoting his life to increasing awareness of public policy, waste, fraud and corruption, he’s hosted a radio show that showcased various authors and policy specialists, ranging from publisher Steve Forbes, Phoenix University Founder John Sperling, columnist Mark Steyn, and author Shelby Steele. At The Heartland Institute (whose mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to America’s social and economic problems), Bruno spoke about education issues and testified before legislators around the country.
Bruno serves as founder and board member of American Transparency, a non-profit organization dedicated to putting all local, state, and federal spending in one database, ready for instant retrieval. He also blogs at ExtremeWisdom.com. However, he spoke to us about the governmental education complex, a system of “educational apartheid.” He warns of us about an upcoming fad called “community schooling” (where psyche services and Planned Parenthood may find a new home alongside teachers and classrooms). His solution is not to argue about common core or tweaking this or that – but rejecting it altogether and become part of helping to decentralize education services – right back to alternative choices, funding children (not systems), and going back to the future to individual schools, their principals, parents, teachers, and students. Fight centralization and districting (a structure being adopted by the one-size government healthcare crowd). Truly informative!
Keep up with School Reform News. And take time to read Extreme Wisdom, Reposting my “Government Education Complex”piece,
and listen to the "Fight of the Century": Keynes vs. Hayek Rap Battle Round Two.”

We heard about how law-abiding judges are often swapped out legally ("substituted") by liberal judges, the police force being reduced when sheriff's officers tried to work in areas where extra crime prevention would be helpful, that 75-80 officers may be let go for "budget/debt reduction" reasons (rather than save money by stopping trolley-development, for example). And, did you know that Lambeau Field has facial recognition capabilities? Our members really appreciated his information!

West Side supports the Fisher House that provides a home away from home to take care of veterans’ families in their time of need. West Side also supports another building on the VA grounds that does not have a national organization behind it and does not garner any media attention.
The Hoptel is a place where veterans can stay when they need out-patient treatment. Jenny Reimer oversees this building, and she needs our help. As when dealing with any government bureaucracy, funding and needed items are a challenge to get. If you would like to make a difference and help our veterans, please consider bringing a donation:

Topic: InDepth Insights! Speakers: Matt Kittle, Bureau Chief of Watchdog.org, and Chris We’re thrilled that Matt Kittle came back! So much had transpired since we heard from him and Eric O'Keefe about the John Doe Investigations. If you’ve been listening to Jay Weber, Vicki McKenna, and Mark Belling’s shows, then you’ve likely heard Matt covering everything from the abusive John Doe probe to federal recognition of the Ninth and Tenth amendments to what’s really happening in the Milwaukee County Jail system. We found out what we should have on our radar now. Remember when a video gone viral shook up the Presidential campaign last Fall (10/6/2016)? Project Veritas exposed “Democrats' shady strategies to rig elections” in Rigging the Election – Video II: Mass Voter Fraud. We got inside scoop on that story. We also heard about new initiatives to get mainstream, universal ideas incorporated into what we watch - not lecturing, but providing entertainment that doesn't push far-left agendas as we see happening now. |

Topic: Dynamic Duo of Educational Sanity Speakers: Dr. Kirsten Lombard and Dr. Jeffrey Horn More recap to come! Wisconsin education is on the ballot in February and again in April. It’s vital we understand the issues so we can identify and champion a DPI candidate that will get us out of the mess the educational pundits and academic elitists have gotten us into. Kirsten and Jeff are grassroots activists who have spent the last several years focusing on state and national education issues. They offer valuable insight and data on how educational problems in Wisconsin and nationally have morphed and why Common Core is now no longer the biggest problem we face, either here or across the nation. In particular, they discussed currently proposed Wisconsin and national legislation that spells more trouble and provided their take on what would need to happen to restore true education at this point. It's all related to the upcoming DPI election here in Wisconsin. |

Topic: Election, Convention, and Young Republicans
Speakers:
Chris Kapenga, State Senator, Senate District 33, Committees: Elections and Local Government (Vice-Chair), Government Operations and Consumer Protection, Public Benefit and Regulatory Reform (Chair)
Patty Reiman, GOP Convention Delegate
JD Leisemann, Mlwaukee Regional Vice Chair of College Republicans National Committee on behalf of Alex Walker, Midwest Regional Vice Chair of College Republican National Committee and Chairman of the Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans
We are happy to say goodbye to the corrupt and abusive Government Accountability Board and learned more from Chris Kapenga about the newly formed Election and Ethics Commission. We heard about election issues, voter ID, and the
Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC). ERIC uses algorithms to compare databases from its member states and determines inaccuracies in states’ voting lists — who has moved, who has died, and who is eligible to vote but not yet registered. However, in addition to correcting voter registration records, the data can also be used to “reach out” to unregistered citizens and track voter participation. Patty Reiman served as a delegate at this summer’s GOP convention and will give us inside scoop and answer questions about what wasn’t reported in the media and the Official Republican Party Platform for 2016. Alex Walker suggested his friend and fellow College Republican to give us insight on how things look on campus, what can be done to attract the hearts and minds of young voters – and how experienced voters can help. |

Topic: First Amendment Shut Down on Campus
Speakers: John McAdams, Marquette U Associate Professor and Rick Esenberg, President and General Counsel of Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty
We’ve heard victims who are fighting back against Milwaukee County D.A. John Chisholm and the Government Accountability Board’s horrifying paramilitary, pre-dawn John Doe raids. We’ve heard Susan Hitchler’s chilling story that involves NO crime and an overly aggressive Waukesha County prosecutor, Lesli Boese (aka Hemauer), who is pursuing a political agenda.
BREAKING NEWS: Suspended professor John McAdams to sue Marquette University!
“Marquette University associate professor John McAdams and the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty announced Monday a lawsuit against Marquette over the professor's suspension stemming from his public criticism of a teaching assistant.”
We wrap up this season’s luncheon programs by hearing John McAdams who is fighting for free speech and academic freedom on campus. Rick Esenberg will provide insight into the law and liberty.
Brief background: McAdams accurately wrote in his personal blog about a student’s experience with a teaching assistant/instructor (part of which was recorded): The instructor refused to allow gay marriage as a potential topic for debate during her ethics class stating that “we all agree to this one.” When asked to clarify after class, she said “there are some opinions that are not appropriate.” McAdams’ post went viral, and the instructor received some very offensive e-mails. The emails were in no way encouraged by McAdams. “In fact, John called the people harassing the instructor “jerks” and has said that their e-mails were ‘deplorable.’” Nonetheless, Marquette summarily suspended McAdams, and now says it will fire him unless he apologizes.
It’s bad enough that a teaching assistant shut down a student’s right to his opinion – but it’s even worse that Marquette has jumped into the bullying with the full force of its institution to shut down one of its own tenured professors for simply posting an accurate account of an event and his view of it.

Topic: Another Case of Unconstitional Judicial Activism Speaker: Susan Hitchler We are well aware of the paramilitary, pre-dawn John Doe raids. In April, we heard Susan Hitchler’s chilling story about overly aggressive prosecutors with a political agenda. Susan forgot her firearm in the bathroom of her Church. Three witnesses confirm the gun was there less than five minutes, no children were present, and two adults picked it up. Nevertheless, this lifelong, law-abiding, great-grandmother was dragged through the Criminal Justice System on two separate criminal charges. Susan’s presentation includes examples of prosecutorial abuse and what’s really involved with “plea bargaining.” Susan Hitchler is a veteran keynote speaker and training consultant, ran her own professional speaking and corporate consulting company for 20 years, and is certified in Neuro-Linquistic Programming. She also worked for the State of Wisconsin for 10 years placing special needs children for adoption. Susan “refused to cede [neither] her constitutional right to self-defense for the rest of her life, nor her private property...when she had committed no crime,” as Nik Clark, president of Wisconsin Carry, Inc.) so aptly puts it. We were also happy to welcome Stephanie Esquell, who not only works in the firearms industry, but also helps take the fear/mystique out of firearms. She informed us about The Well Armed Woman – an organization we can join, as well as the range that hosts her chapter |
March 2016
The following statewide, Ozaukee, and Milwaukee county candidates gave us a terrific, in-person accounting of themselves and how they would bring sensible, responsible leadership to our local communities and state: Judge Rebecca Bradley, WI Supreme Court Deanna Alexander, County Brd Supervisor, D18 Scott Espeseth. County Brd Supervisor, Dist 16 Judge Michelle Havas, Milw. Circuit Court 45 Chris Schultz, Board of Education MTSD Aaron Hurvitz, Board of Education MTSD Cyndy Raatz,Thiensville Supervisor Dist 22 Aaron Armstrong, Mayor of Mequon Ed Soleski, Mequon District 1st Alderman Kimberly Steinbrenner, Mequon County Brd Supervisor, D26 Other names to support - Fox Point Paul Rifelj, Circuit court Judge Branch 31 William Kravit & Eric Fonstad, Trustee |
Meeting recap for February, 2016
We got an update on how things have been anything but transparent with the Milwaukee County Supervisors. We are grateful to Deanna for blowing the whistle on as many items and issues as she can. We ALSO got an update of education issues relating to CCSS, DPI, ESSA and how it affects districts like Germantown, as well as an up close and personal update on the race for DPI Superintendent. Deanna Alexander is seeking re-election and our support to the Milwaukee County Board on April 5, 2016. In 2013, she was named to a national “Top 10 Under 40 Future Leaders” list. January 2016 SPEAKER:
Peggy Shapiro, Midwest Director, StandWithUs TOPIC: Middle East Politics Abroad and on Our Campuses The year of 1938 was one that should have taught us a lot. Unfortunately, we did not learn as much as we could have and are paying for that today.
StandWithUs is an international, non-profit organization that believes education is the road to peace. StandWithUs is dedicated to informing the public about Israel and to combating the extremism and anti-Semitism that often distorts the issues. December, 2015 SPEAKERS:
Heritage Musick and Daunce Society Julie Stuhlmacher, President, Trees from Home, Inc. Our Spirits Were Bright
as we celebrated the end of the year, Christmas, Hanukkah, friends and family, and all the Frederick Douglass-type Republicans* who continue the never-ending and worthy fight to safeguard life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have heard from some very important speakers on topics which have touched all our lives in some way. For our December luncheon we time traveled back to the early days of our country and the American War for Independence. What pastimes did early Americans indulge in to cope with war, politics and survival? The Heritage Dauncers were successful in spreading a little Christmas cheer and inviting us to share a wassail bowl while they entertained us. They even taught us a dance! The Wassail (prounced wahsuhl) was festively fun and tasty! *Douglass’ Four Life-Empowering Values: Respect for the U.S. Constitution; Respect for Life; Belief in the Limited POWER of government; and Belief in Personal Responsibilities |
November, 2015 SPEAKERS:
Rebecca Bradley, WI Supreme Court Candidate Deborah Jordahl, Johnson Jordahl: Strategic Communications and Issue Advocacy – Outspoken with REASON Against abuses of JohnDoe Investigations Right Women 2015: The Trailblazer Award Finalist, Rebecca Bradley is a rising star in the state’s judiciary. She embodies a conservative approach to the law: The role of a justice is to interpret the law, not invent it. Rebecca believes that judges “should defer to democratic processes that result in the creation of laws by legislatures and not attempt to impose their policy preferences in their decisions.”
Right Women 2015: The Iron Lady Award Winner, Deborah Jordahl is a principal of Johnson Jordahl, a strategic communications and issue advocacy firm and a champion of conservative ideas and issues. She was also one of the primary targets of now-closed John Doe investigation targeting conservatives in Wisconsin. On October 3, 2013 her home was searched by armed agents, who roused her children in the dark. Earlier this year, the Wisconsin Supreme Court shut down the probe, saying that “it is utterly clear that the special prosecutor has employed theories of law that do not exist in order to investigate citizens who were wholly innocent of any wrongdoing.” Since that ruling Deb has spoken out against the abusive investigation and the violation of her – and her family’s – rights. |
October 15, 2015 SPEAKERs:
Matt Kittle, bureau chief, WI Reporter/Watchdog.org Eric O’Keefe, Political Activist, WI Club for Growth and Citizens for Self-Governance TOPIC: The Gagging of Lady Liberty: Free Speech in Peril Don't be surprised if someone you know's family and property were violated by the John Doe investigations. The message is harrowing. Eric O’Keefe lived it and refused to be cowed by the establishment. Matt Kittle refused to let the story get buried under ground.
We had plenty of time to ask questions. With the wide-ranging experiences these two brought, we got fascinating insight into a lot of topics! |

05/2015 - KCarl Smith: It’s Not about Color; It’s about Values
In his book entitled, Frederick Douglass Republicans: The Movement to Re-Ignite America’s Passion for Liberty, KCarl Smith espouses the life-empowering values of Douglass and provides the answers and strategies that have eluded the conservative movement for decades – how to trump the “race card” and share the good-news message of the conservative philosophy: · Respect for the Constitution · Respect for Life · Belief in Individual Responsibility · Belief in Limited Government KCarl encouraged and inspired us to create an atmosphere for political dialogue without being accused of racism, how to convey the values of Frederick Douglass, and how to share the conservative philosophy in a way that resonates with all Americans. We are Frederick Douglass Republicans! Please support this organization and try to get legislators and representatives of all stripes in touch with these writings and conversations. Books, apparel, and his online course will be available at FrederickDouglassRepublican.com. Donations will help unite people via their common Values. |
04-2015 Loren Spivack, Economist and Kim Michalowski, Fisher House, Board of Directors
TOPIC: What's Next? ...with our country and the Milwaukee Fisher House
Economics can be interesting and is truly relevant – now as much as ever. In 2013 we got the skinny on Austrian economics in Loren Spivack’s Economic Literacy luncheon and seminar. This year we were treated to more of a conceptual guide on how we get from here to there – a practical, guide for restoring America.
We will also hear from Kim Michalowski, President, Fisher House Wisconsin Board of Directors, about progress with Wisconsin’s first Fisher House, which broke ground this spring – a "home away from home" for military and veterans' families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.

02-19-15 Patricia Lynch, founder of West Side Soldiers Aid Society and author of Milwaukee’s Soldiers Home (The West Side Victorian Dancers were unable to come)
TOPIC: The Civil War Homefront 1865: The Daring Young Women of Milwaukee History came alive again as part of our salute to the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. Milwaukee women were quick to respond to the needs of Union soldiers and their families in the first two years of the Civil War. They were also some of the first to recognize the need for long-term care for men whose lives had been altered by crippling wounds, chronic disease, and psychological trauma. By 1863, the women of the West Side Soldiers’ Aid Society had re-examined their mission and opened a store-front home for Wisconsin’s Union soldiers. A state charter and overwhelming support for a great fundraising fair were just two of the highlights of the spring of 1865. |
Patricia founded the West Side Soldiers Aid Society to research the women involved in the Civil War-era Soldiers’ Home in downtown Milwaukee as well as support veteran programs at Zablocki VA Medical Center and elsewhere.
The patients in the VA nursing home and Spinal Cord Injury Unit greatly appreciate gift cards to Marcus theaters, as well as Culver’s and Applebee’s..
As director of the West Side Victorian Dancers, Patricia presents programs on nineteenth-century dance (and even offers free dance sessions twice a month at Hales Corners Village Hall!).

01-15-15 John O'Hare, Adjunct Professor of Finance with Concordia University, and Leanne Freeman, Professor of Statistics at UW-Milwaukee
John discussed the stock markets, economy and government spending. He instructs graduate students in Portfolio Theory, Securities Analysis, and Corporate Finance. His perspective on the U.S. and world economy was encouraging.
Leanne gave us an overview on how to make sense of polls and statistics. When we see one, we need to ask questions to determine who was polled, what they were asked, and how they were asked. Yes, polls and surveys can be both insightful and/or misleading.

12-18-14 Young Republicans Making a Difference Today
Matt Walker, WI Federation of College Republicans Johnny Koremenos, Campaign Mgr for Attorney General-elect Brad Schimel John Cervini, Vice President, Institutional Advancement for Hillsdale College's Kirby Ctr We were fortunate to have Matt Walker join us. He made an impressive case for the influence that college age Republicans make in campaigns and the Capitol. As leader of the WI Federation of College Republicans, Matt helped bring the Federation of CRs into the 21st Century in ways that resonate with young voters. Key is how things get communicated. For example, making the case for a free market and less government becomes: "We believe the old, top-down approach of Washington D.C. doesn't work. Our fresh ideas to grow the economy naturally and organically from the bottom-up will help all Americans live their dreams." (See WICollegeRepublicans.com) And check out this fabulous blog inventively covering 5 Reasons the $124 Million Streetcar is Bad for Milwaukee (remember the story about a Harvard career reducing the argument to 4 words: Streetcar Bad - Bus Good...) Johnny Koremenos explained what he did starting at age 15 that led him to be asked to manage a (successful!) campaign for WI Attorney General. He made the case that volunteering and working in political internships is worthwhile both personally and professionally. John Cervini gave us an impressive history of Hillsdale College's Kirby Center, charter school work, and Graduate School of Statesmanship. All dedicated to the goal of re-establishing the fundamental conditions of freedom: true civic education in our schools and universities; a pride in self-government within society; and an understanding among our elected leaders of enduring constitutional principles. |
11-20-14 MKE County Supervisor Deanna Alexander: Government Transparency for Voters and Activists - Deanna presented helpful tips on keeping track of what our government is doing. For the links she shared to access legislation, supervisors, meeting minutes, and more, please go to our Resources and Contacts page. We need vigilance and oversight more than ever!!
We also saw an excellent TED talk by Glen Greenwald about "Why Privacy Matters." This important issue is key now and especially for the future of our freedom. New ideas will be thought-provoking - I promise!Glenn Greenwald was one of the first reporters to see — and write about — the Edward Snowden files, with their revelations about the United States' extensive surveillance of private citizens. In this searing talk, Greenwald makes the case for why you need to care about privacy, even if you’re “not doing anything you need to hide." |
10-16-14 Kirsten Lombard and Glenn Grothman
TOPIC: Common Ground on Common Core and Building Coalitions
Kirsten brought copies of her new book and talk about Common Ground on Common Core: Voices from across the Political Spectrum Expose the Realities of the Common Core Standards. The final version has a forward by Ron Paul. Kirsten is always dynamic and informative! We learned so much about her bi-partisan approach of finding that we have common ground when the vitriolic politics are stripped and the common ground is focused on. The book's contributors are experts on the subject and are of varied political backgrounds. Kirsten's editing prowess allows us to share this gem with people of any persuasion!!

May 2014 Meeting Recap
Senators Leah Vukmir and Paul Farrow deserved our highest accolades for not forgetting who they serve, as well as the goals of limited government, local control, and states' rights. We heard about what went on during the Common Core School Standards fight at the Capitol, the shanghaied "public" meeting, and determinations about what type of legislation can be pursued next.

April 2014 Meeting Recap
In March 2002, Sheriff David Clarke was appointed Sheriff by Governor Scott McCallum, and eight months later was elected to his first four-year term, earning 64% of the vote. Sheriff Clarke is now in his third term, having been re-elected in November 2006 and 2010, increasing his victory margins to 73% and 74%. We were honored to host him when he was running back in 2006, and we're thrilled to have him back in time for the 2014 election!
As Clarke says on his re-election site: "The co-existence of freedom and safety may be the greatest challenge any leader will face, yet the balance is attainable. As an elected officer, I’ve devoted my entire life to finding and implementing this balance." He recently was a member on a panel at CPAC discussing the topic of "More Guns, Less Crime: How Law Enforcement is Beginning to Embrace a Well-Armed Civilian Population." What a fabulous opportunity to hear from Sheriff Clarke!

February 2014 Meeting Recap
Americans celebrated Washington's Birthday long before Congress declared it a federal holiday. So respected, the reading of George Washington's Farewell Address became an annual event for the Senate, a tradition that is evidently still observed to this day.
We recaptured the Spirit of '76 by traveling back in time with the Heritage Musick and Daunce Society to the era of our Founding Fathers, the then-British colonies of present day America. Special focus was devoted to "the Indispensable Man" - George Washington - in honor of the anniversary of the 282nd year of his birth. Come join us as we celebrate the first President of these United States. All attendees went home with a Founder's Wisdom booklet!
The Heritage Musick and Daunce Society consists of Col. Webb’s 3rd Connecticut Band of Musick; Heritage Colonial Dauncers; and Pastyme With Goode Companye Recorder Consort. Each brings its own unique perspective to life in Colonial America prior to 1800; all with authentic Revolutionary War era clothing and period music.

Dr. Duke Pesta, English professor at UW-Oshkosh and academic director at FreedomProject Education TOPIC: Dangers and Threats to American Liberty and Education We'd heard a lot about Common Core - but we hadn't heard everything! The chilling truth behind these national "standards" is horrific. Make no mistake, Common Core represents the latest and most comprehensive step in the drive toward complete control of our children's education. We heard over an hour of examples of how Common Core threatens to further undermine, weaken, and centralize public and private education in our country. We left with renewed motivation to spread the truth about Common Core and continue the ongoing struggle to roll back its implementation. Click here to go to our Education | IB & Common Core page and see a short video presentation. |
December 19, 2013 Meeting Recap
Mary Buestrin, RNC Vice Chairman from the Midwestern Region Vince Trovato - "the James Bond of the Republican Party" Mary Buestrin was elected to and has been serving the Republican National Committee as National Committeewoman for Wisconsin in June of 1992 and served as the Co-Chairman of the 2012 Republican National Convention. She spoke about the RNC structure and purpose: the RNC is the only entity that can fund a presidential candidate after the primary. The RNC doesn't provide opinions about issues, it executes what the RN Convention adopts and fund raises for the Presidential campaign. Yuri Maltsev calls Vince Trovato "the James Bond of the Republican Party"! Vince has spent nearly ten years pursuing his dual passions for politics and international relations. His recent work in South Sudan focused on working with opposition political parties who are actively trying to organize and compete in national elections to be held in 2015. In and out of areas in civil and tribal wars, the recent headlines from the Sudan http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/21/4-wounded-as-us-military-aircraft-attacked-during-evacuation-mission-in-south/?intcmp=latestnews The TEA Party Explained books were at the December luncheon (Thanks, Vince!) We have a few signed extras available, too. Just use the contact us button. |
November 21, 2013 meeting recap Yuri Maltsev Professor of Economics A.W. Clausen Center for World Business, Carthage College We enthusiastically welcomed back Yuri Maltsev and his newly co-authored book, The TEA Party Explained: From Crisis to Crusade (Ideas Explained). Our club hosted eight high school students and their AP US History and Politics teacher to hear this Soviet defector who served as an Economic advisor to Gorbachev. The Tea Party first attracted the media spotlight with Rick Santelli’s televised rant against the government’s bailout of mortgage borrowers on February 19, 2009, which instantly went viral as a video. As the authors document, however, “tea parties” associated with the Ron Paul movement had already been gathering momentum for more than a year. Beginning as a protest against government spending sprees, the Tea Party’s sudden fame forced it to define itself on many issues where the membership was seriously divided. The Tea Party Explained gives a well-documented account of the Tea Party, its origins, its evolution, the bitter squabbles over its direction, its amazing successes in 2010, and its electoral rebuff in 2012. Maltsev and Skaskiw analyze its demographics, the many organizations which have tried to represent, appropriate, or infiltrate the movement, and the ideological divisions within. Yuri recently returned from a pan-African business conference, where he joined other eminent business executives and economists from Africa, the UK and US as a speaker: http://lnkd.in/bJZ6FcG and http://conference.miod.mu/ For you francophiles, lisez une article paru dans Le Mauricien | 9 octobre, 2013: «Yuri Maltsev: "La liberté économique, la seule source de prospérité et de stabilité"» We were thrilled to have another chance to hear this informative and humorous speaker! It was a book signing, too! |

September 19 meeting recap
"Kristi Lacroix is one of those rare public school teachers who has the courage to say what others privately think: Organized labor has been bad for education.
She first popped her head up from the trenches in 2011, as union teachers from all over Wisconsin were flooding the statehouse grounds in Madison. They were angry about Act 10, a new law signed by Gov. Scott Walker that took away most of the collective bargaining privileges their union had been abusing for decades.
But Lacroix didn’t join the protest. Instead, she filed a legal amicus brief in support of Walker and Act 10. A few months later she appeared in a statewide television ad supporting the governor’s policies. (EAGnews.com) Kristi is now with the Assoc. of American Educators offering non-union alternative.
Patricia Strachota has been serving WI citizens and District 28 since 2004. Pat presented us with detailed information about the budget. Pat is Vice Chair of the Finance Committee, a member of the Health and Joint Finance Committees, and Chair of the Special Committee on Supervised Release and Discharge of Sexually Violent Persons. Bring your questions and comments!

August 13 and 14, 2013 Economic Literacy Seminar recap
Loren Spivack, the Free Market Warrior Wait a minute… Economics can be interesting…? Learning about free markets can even be fun and make you laugh…? Sounds crazy, but it's all true! Those who came, loved it. We can't wait for Loren's 2nd Seminar, which we will be booking. Hope to see you there! Free-Market Warrior Loren Spivack has made a habit of thoroughly entertaining unsuspecting audiences who've shown up, expecting to hear a boring lecture. Instead they end up laughing their way through his presentations and walking out far more knowledgeable about what makes economics tick, what works, what doesn't...and why. Want to understand better what's happening with our economy today? Want to talk to others about it articulately and persuasively? This is seriously important information explained with helpful analogies, anecdotes, and clarity:
|
Loren's seminars are a great opportunity for high school and college students to get the real scoop on America’s Free Market Principles. If you hear about one or The Free Market Warrior's seminars near you, please go. It was great for us to see fellow attendees Representative Don Pridemore and Senator Glenn Grothman.

Kirsten Lombard, Wisconsin 9/12 Project Topic: Green Tieranny Hot off the success of the Private Property: Now You See It... Now You Don't Forum (more forums to come!). Kirsten Lombard of Madison's The Wisconsin 9/12 Project will focus her discussion with us on the WI DNR Green Tier program, "which encourages and rewards above-compliance environmental performance for Wisconsin businesses." Sounds wonderful, right? Find out how language and good intentions (especially when led by government officials) ultimately lead to costly unintended consequences, like less freedom, higher prices, and more cronyism. Loren Spivack, The Free Market Warrior and Steve Welcenbach, Owner/Editor Reality News TOPIC: Free Market Principles and the Reality News Loren is known as the Free Market Warrior dedicating himself to teaching patriots how to retake control of our destiny as the forces of statism and socialism methodically destroy the last vestiges of freedom in America. Loren clearly explained how Keynesian theories have failed us since they were adopted more than 80 years ago, each and every time they've been tried, including today. Loren also brought copies of his Seussian-inspired book, The New Democrat, that colorfully and humorously details the numerous failed policies of the government and the century of liberalism leading up to it. We may have an opportunity to buy this and his upcoming book, The Gorax, this summer. We'll try to arrange for Loren to come back to Milwaukee so we can take his two-evening seminar on Economics. Highlights: Keynes postulates that excess supply creates a recession and that the remedy is to increase demand by having the government dole out surpluses and unemployment checks. Why? That way people can consume and reduce the supply and not be working at the same time to create more of supply at their jobs. Loren pointed out Keynes' nonsensical belief that unemployment is a Win-Win due to its perfect match of consumption without production. Of course, every time it doesn't work to get us out of a recession (which is every time), the blame always lies on not providing enough stimulus (sound familiar). Steve Welcenbach takes getting the word out literally and publishes The Reality News. Started in 2010, the Reality News is chock full of well-selected articles by local and national experts in their fields. An annual subscription to this monthly newsletter is only $20. No subject is off limits. For example, he writes in the March editorial, "Frederick Douglass, in spite of the slave reading prohibition, learned to read. In one-room schoolhouses kids learned to read. The literacy rate at the start of the 1900’s was extremely high. Why can’t we teach kids to read now in multi million dollars complexes with well-paid educrats to lead them?" |

A Supreme SurpriZe and Joe Voiland, Ozaukee County Circuit Court Candidate Topic: Justice is Served With Pat Roggensack up for re-election this April, it's high-time to focus again on the law of the land (or at least our state). Wisconsinites are well aware of the long-lasting impact our Supreme Court can make on our lives and livelihoods. We're thrilled that Annette stopped by and was able to give us an update. Joe Voiland spoke about his run for circuit court judge to ensure that the law of the land as set forth by our legislature is enforced. He made a good point that the incumbent judge signed the Recall Walker petition, which was basically an attempt to nullify the people's vote - not something becoming of a judge!! We also heard about the first in a series of Sustainable Development Forums. The first of which is about Private Property: Now you see it...now you don't (held 4/22). |
February 21, 2013 meeting recap
Taking Local Control Since being elected to the legislature in 2004, Don Pridemore has been involved with education, serving on the committees of Education, Education Reform (past Chair), and Urban Education (current Chair). It’s Don's goal to significantly reduce paperwork and redundancy in his first six months in office. The “educrats” in Madison have created layer after layer of bureaucracy in the Wisconsin school system and then diverted millions of dollars away from the classroom to pay for it. It is time to get the power and the money out of Madison and back to the local schools. Dan Abendroth is running for Mequon Mayor. He says the city should pursue development that adds more value than it costs, and that city government should look to streamline its operations and become more efficient, like any successful business. Alex Leykin is running for a position on the Mequon Board of Education. He believes the school district has the resources to accomplish its educational goals and supports not increasing taxes by restructuring the budget and adjusting the district to meet its needs and resources. He's the REAL fiscal conservative running. |

Diane Schlosser, editor/daughter, The Pacific War and Iwo Jima, and Dr. Paul Frazier, Brookfield Academy History Ivan D. Thunder's The Pacific War and Iwo Jima is a series of vignettes of daily Seabee life during and after the battle of Iwo Jima. Included in his recollections are essays where he unabashedly expresses his opinion on whether we provoked the Japanese; if the A-bomb was justified; and offers his detailed tribute to Admiral Nimitz. This book is a testimony to the extraordinary "Can Do!" spirit of the Seabees. His daughter and chief editor, Diane Thunder Schlosser, joins us to share their experience. As the Greatest Generation passes away, these inspirational recollections will serve as a useful primary source for young historians!
Dr. Paul Frazier teaches young historians to use primary sources and think for themselves. Hear him describe the pitfalls and philosophy behind teaching history and walking the minefield between re-examinations of the past and falsifications of it. A timely topic: Even in real-time, D.C. and the media don't reflect our world. Bring your questions & friends! |

Amy Luft, a board member of the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight Org., gave us a special presentation about military WWII American heroes and the way that WI citizens are honoring them for their service by flying them back to Washington D.C., escorted by a "Guardian" and doctors. In D.C., they are taken on a police escorted tour of monuments and the Arlington Cemetery. Motto: Each Day Is a Bonus Joan Armbruster performed a patriotic, historical, and musical tribute to our armed forces in Let Freedom Sing (and the audience joined in!). We had a great, uplifting time together as celebrating freedom and those who defend it. |

It was time to focus on local!! We were thrilled Karen Schroeder, founder and president of Advocates for Academic Freedom, could join us. In the late 1970s, as an elementary classroom teacher, Ms. Schroeder was alarmed when she was required to teach from a history book which demeaned the value of our founding documents, the integrity of our founding fathers, and taught children to respect a democracy and collectivism rather than teach the students that America was a Constitutional Republic.
Cheryle Rebholtze, recently elected to the Mequon School Board, provided us with an update on initiatives, the state of the school, and plans for the future.
Rep. Don Pridemore updated us on the happenings in preparation for the next session of the state legislature.

Oct 19, 2012 meeting recap
This October we welcomed two dynamic speakers, Julaine Appling, president of Wisconsin Family Action, a statewide pro-family organization, and Dan Hunt of True the Vote. Julaine testifies in Madison on behalf of or against legislation that impact our families. She's a wealth of information about legislative and cultural issues that affect the traditional family structure ranging from taxes, to school choice, to pro-life, to religious freedom and beyond. Dan Hunt is on the front lines protecting the integrity of our electoral process -- believed to be limited for a variety of reasons, including: A lack of citizen awareness, involvement, and adequate training. Both people and both groups are working hard to protect our liberties and regain the ones we're losing. Kelly Thompson, US Senate Candidate and former WI Governor's daughter, talked to us about Tommy Thompson's familial bond with Wisconsin and the determination and experience he would take with him to D.C. as our U.S. Senator. |

SPEAKERS: Rep. Jim Ott and Rep. Dan Knodl | TOPIC: Lessening the Regulations Also: Candidate, US Rep. Dan Sebring | Topic: Winning the 4th District As we struggle with the thought that gov't officials trample our personal and inalienable freedoms every day, it's nice to know that here in WI, the legislature has begun to cut down on the number of boots destroying our path. Also, during the latest district boundary changes, many of our club members became 4th District constituents. That means we are no longer represented by Jim Sensenbrenner, but by uber-lib Gwen Moore. It was terrific meeting the candidate in the Nov election running to represent us, Dan Sebring. |

Yuri Maltsev, Prof of Econ at Carthage College, received his PhD in economics at the Institute for Labor Research in Moscow. Some of his major achievements include consulting on Central and Eastern European economic, trade and political issues, as well as appearing on national television and radio programs. His discovery of F.A. Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom led him to the Austrian School of Economics, which soon convinced him that “there are absolutely no alternatives to freedom and voluntary exchanges in any sphere of human life and endeavor.” Fortunately for us, he defected from the Soviet Union and is currently a professor of economics at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. We were thrilled he joined us this March.
Kevin Sawall, a senior at Brookfield Academy, volunteers at Victory offices from Silver Spring to Waukesha, worked for Right to Life, starred in The Nerd, and helped his Mock Trial team get advanced to this year's State competition. We had a unique opportunity to hear his insights into the Republican Party and what its attraction could be for young Conservatives.

TOPIC: Tax Bites & Tasty Morsels & the Race for the Senate and Mequon School Board Susie Iventoschis obsessed with revamping the ridiculous tax code and progressive taxes we endure in this country, which is why she wrote a book titled Tax Bites & Tasty Morsels, Who’s Been Eating My Pie? She sang, enlightened us, and signed her books! Iventosch wrote a weekly column in Home & Garden for several years and is still an occasional contributor. She also writes a biweekly column for a Bay Area publication. Eric Hovde, US Senate Candidate (well, at our meeting he was a pre-candidate), is a businessman and entrepreneur who would be ready to work with Conservatives on our behalf in the US Senate and has been vetted by Conservatives we know. He and his wife joined us, explained his background and experience, and answered questions. We've also heard from all three courageous candidates running for Mequon School Board (election 2/21): Cheryle Rebholz, Gary Laev, and Ed Allen. Jon Callaway - SW WISGOP Regional Director
Jon got us up to speed on how the Wisconsin GOP and Governor Walker's team are responding to the disgraceful recall attempt. We received training that will enable us to be a productive part of the statewide effort to verify recall signatures, support the Walker reforms, and defend the results of our fairly won election.
Andrew Cegielski - Candidate Milwaukee County Board Supervisor. Andrew gives us a real choice and motivation to VOTE in the April 3 primary.
Representative Jim Ott of the 23rd District told us of voting bills that will help protect our vote from rampant abuse.

Rebecca Kleefisch, Lt. Governor - Wisconsin Is Open for Business
We were thrilled to welcome back Rebecca Kleefisch in her well-deserved role as Wisconsin's Lieutenant Governor. Rebecca has proven that being energetic, enthusiastic, positive, strong, and knowledgeable about communications, business, family life, and health care can turn this state toward the path to economic recovery. Our state has gone from 8-9th worst in terms of state deficits to having NO deficit.
We Celebrated this Season by hearing great news about our communities and state, how Scott Walker's bold plan has helped school districts across the state, how more private-sector jobs are being created, and how [Rebecca Kleefisch's] social media savvy helps attract businesses to Wisconsin.

Cathy Stepp, WI DNR Secretary: What's Up with the DNR
Newly appointed by Gov. Walker, Cathy Stepp has the unenviable task of re-directing and re-branding a department that has been known more for its strong-arm against WI citizens, than as a reasonable partner and steward of WI resources.
"As a former homebuilder, she became aware of Wisconsin's regulatory climate and how it affected small business owners. In 1998, Gov. Tommy Thompson asked her to bring this perspective to the Natural Resources Board, and she served on the Board for 3 years. That experience led her to run for the Legislature where she was chairman of the Senate Job Creation Committee and co-chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. She chose not to seek re-election and returned home at the end of the 4year term to rejoin her husband in her family truck business.
Stepp notes her administration is concentrating on improving DNR's customer relations and streamlining and simplifying permitting to accomplish Gov. Scott Walker's goals to create state jobs. She notes that job creation and environmental protection are mutually supportive."

We know that election reform is needed in Wisconsin. We're Watching WI Elections has been on the front lines for several years leading up to the Voter ID bill getting passed and signed by Gov. Walker (5/25). Mary Ann explained why we need it, how the legislature and We're Watching WI Elections has and continues to work on reforms, and what we can do about it. She also made an excellent case for why we need conservatives at the polls on election day and volunteering (there is some pay) to serve as election officials and special deputy registrars.

The WI Chief Justice kept Justice Prosser busy by scheduling meetings almost all March, which had a huge impact on his ability to get out and meet and speak to people in order to campaign for his re-election. We accommodated Justice Prosser's schedule and Jeff Stone was kind enough to work with us on that, too. Jeff shared his vision for limiting spending and government in MKE County. Candidate for 22nd District Assembly, Paul Pedersen, introduced himself and provided a great case for reducing government in our lives. He didn’t win, but the state went red (shows how blue our area really is).
Jane Johnson talked about life on the trail. This savvy, gracious lady is a wonderful addition to the political scene.
We're Watching WI Elections - Ardis Cerny and Mary Ann Hanson TOPIC: Voter Fraud & How to Deter It
Then heard how a few ladies got up and began a movement in Wisconsin to clean up our elections. Ardis Cerny and MaryAnn Hanson encouraged us to focus on an issue and do as they did -- band together to make a difference! They suggested doing any activism as "concerned citizens" only and not to fundraise to support the cause - just donate. Both bits of advice help avoid MANY pitfalls along the way.

Every day is Constitution Day ... at least it should be!! Join us for our September luncheon on Thursday, September 16 at the Radisson in Glendale with Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman. Constitutional Conservatism will be our focus, and you will go home well armed with knowledge as well as a pocket Constitution donated by our members. Bring your questions and friends. Extremely personable and gracious, Justice Gableman explained the differences between justice done from a liberal activist point of view versus a conservative point of view. Two cases helped illustrate the two choice.

May 2010 meeting recap
We had a great time in May with Vicki McKenna and Ron Johnson. Our luncheons went on summer break (until 9/16), but the blogging continued. Members volunteered, made new friends, and helped in the fight to get this country back to limited government, lower taxes, more freedom.
Vicki McKenna rousts this state out of its slumber via the air waves and at Tea Parties, and she woke us up to the demands of not only volunteering for 1 or more campaigns this summer (pick your favorite candidates) as well as continuing the push to explain, protect, and promote our conservative values well after November brings us the wins we've been working so hard for.
Ron Johnson presented himself as someone who has what it takes to represent Wisconsin businesses and residents in Washington - where the majority of our legislators have fallen in love with taxation without representation! (See him at a Tea Party.) - the Saturday before he announced his candidacy on Monday - Fresh off the TEA Party success and with insight on Voter ID and the Fairness Doctrine
We also recognized Crystal Berg – 5th District GOP Chair, and Kathy Kiernan – WFRW 5th District Chair, Vicky Ostry-WFRW Treasurer, two club members who have done an excellent job recruiting guests, and our club’s founder Mary Grueninger-O’Leary who traveled from Minocqua, WI to attend.
We also launched our club website: http://www.SRWCmilwaukee.com with the intent of it being a one-stop shop for current and classic economic and political information.

April 2010 Meeting Recap
UW-Madison College Republican Chairman, Crystal Lee (www.uwgop.com), is a shining example of what it means to be strive to be the best you can be. With her energy and drive, she has helped the UW-Madison College Republicans provide opportunities on campus to learn about conservatism and support people as they search for alternatives to liberal ideology. Being involved with the college Republicans has provided Crystal with many chances to travel and meet conservative leaders. She is looking forward to working with Teach for America next year. It was a great opportunity to see and support our future!
We also heard from Rebecca Kleefisch, candidate for Lt. Gov. She is prepared to apply her media and public relations expertise to Madison to shine a light on the good and the bad to hold people accountable and then build a PR campaign to woo businesses back to WI.
Update: Unfortunately, Joe Mahoney, who hosts his own radio show, Crossfire, was unable to join us due to his professor not allowing him to reschedule his exam, which conflicted with our luncheon. This 2009 Illinois State Debate Champion is involved with For Scott Walker and the Marquette College Republicans and is someone to keep track of. Give his show a listen! (P.S. At the 5:20 minute mark on "Episode 4, Part 1," Joe gives the SRWC a special shout-out! Thanks, Joe!)

March 2010 Meeting Recap
Thank you to Terrence Wall, candidate for WI Senator for speaking to us in February. Terrence believes strongly that longtime Washington politicians are the problem, not the solution [and that] citizen legislators, coming from the private sector, can provide the real-world solutions needed to rebuild our economy, get people back to work and lower health care costs for all Americans. He has a strong entrepreneurial background that began when he was young, showed itself in his successful businesses, and continues to today. We need people in D.C. that understand how freedom releases the spirit to pursue the best for oneself and one's family.
Thank you also to Sid Terry for speaking to our group about the Ozaukee Patriots, a Tea-party group worth joining that is making a difference.

February 2010 Meeting Recap
Dave Westlake is running to oust one of our current, eye-rolling, non-listening Senators. He effectively presented himself as it promises on his Facebook page, as someone who is a "conservative, veteran, small business owner, West Point grad & U. of Chicago MBA who believes in small gov't., accountability, 2nd Amendment, lower-taxes, term limits, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." "...guide this nation by the principles of hard work, responsibility, leadership, and selfless service for our children...the bedrock tenets of liberty, freedom, and a government of the people, by the people, and for the people are as fresh and invigorating today as they were at the birth of this great Republic. Why do I believe these things? Because I believe in the limitless ingenuity of the American spirit...the unlimited power of individual initiative and creativity.that every single one of us makes better decisions for ourselves and for our families than a government of "an elite few in a distant city."
Thank you also to Ben Collins, Candidate for Lt. Governor, for speaking to us about his military past, current business experience, and future plans to serve and protect Wisconsin. "Let's start by building the state budget from scratch - every year. The days of taking last year's budget and adding on a wish list are over. Let's also look at what other states have done to streamline functions, pool purchasing power and eliminate redundancy. More than that, let's look to the business community for management ideas and best practices. As companies across Wisconsin have reformed and become more efficient in tough times, let's look to apply the lessons learned to state government so we can get costs under control and taxes cut."

January 2010 Meeting Recap
Founder of Milwaukee God Squad and candidate for Secretary of State, David King, spoke. A background of helping people make real change and find faith in their lives -- all without government money -- the perfect foundation on which to help WI and get out of the way of voter ID. All Sec of States have been Dems (7 are ACORN-fed); a position that supervises ballot counting! He spoke at length and inspiring-ly of his work in the inner-city. We presented Pastor King with a framed copy of the Ripon House, for which he was extremely excited and grateful. We also offered our first silent auction of a signed copy of Jim DeMint’s Saving Freedom.
Thanks to Brett Davis, candidate for Lt. Gov. and Rebecca Kleefisch, candidate for Lt. Gov. for stopping by!

2009 Recap
In December, Tonette Walker told tales of family, friendship, and faith. She has a unique perspective of what it is like to personally support and encourage a spouse to devote long hours and much effort protecting the Wisconsin taxpayer. We also held our first “conservative boutique” offering several conservative books and custom-made items (pens, bracelets, and ornaments), all for essentially cost.
In November, Regina Kolbow and Jolene gave us their “Alinsky” workshop, where our members were horrified, yet appreciated learning that community organizers are using churches to further a collectivist agenda of redistribution of wealth, strengthening abortion rights, and dependency upon government, rather than a higher power, to regulate and direct who and what we are. They were surprised at the organizations involved and the churches that are funding these endeavors to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars from collection plate donations.
In October, we experimented with not holding our regular October meeting to encourage our members to attend part or all of the WFRW Convention and found that our members would probably benefit by having a regularly scheduled meeting as an alternative.
In September, ...
We also held luncheons with the following keynote speakers before the 2009 summer break:
Daniel Gabler, Candidate for Milwaukee County Circuit Court
Jim Ott, Wisconsin 23rd Assembly District Representative
Jennie Frederick, Wisconsin GOP Delegate for the 2008 National Republican Party Platform Committee

Luncheon Special Guest(s) Invited Justin Haskins Heartland Institute, Editorial Director and Research Fellow Topic: The Great Reset (what the left hopes to usher in) "Powerful international interests at the World Economic Forum (WEF) are planning in 2021 to launch a “Great Reset” of capitalism designed to eliminate social and economic freedom around the world. Under the World economic Forum's Great Reset, “stakeholder capitalism” will be the new capitalism, subjecting national economies to the commands of leftist identity-politics groups." The Heartland Institute is taking the fight directly to progressives and socialists. We can't help if we're not informed. It's time to learn about what these plans are and what we can do about it. Justin, who is a frequent guest on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight program, has also spoken with numerous other leading media figures about the Great Reset. Thanks to those conversations, Fox News and other media outlets have started running stories to expose the Great Reset. We can be a part of that, too! |
