Health Care Costs Vary Widely

Picture
"...Change:healthcare looked at claims data from May 2010 to May 2011 for 82,000 employees of small businesses to determine price differences for several procedures: MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds and PET scans.

  • For a pelvic CT scan, they found that within one town in the Southwest, a person could pay as little as $230 for the procedure, or as a much as $1,800.
  • For a brain MRI in a town in the Northeast, a person could pay $1,540 -- or $3,500...."

The Conservative Health Care Plan, Explained
“There’s a conservative health care plan that could reduce costs and help Americans get better access. I think what’s important for people who work on these issues to remember is that this is really a choice about,
are you on the side of an insurance company, which is where Obamacare has been?
are you on the government’s side, which is where Bernie Sanders wants us to be?
Or are you on the side of the people?”

An Open Letter to the Congress and the President of the United States

An Open Letter to the Congress and the President of the United States | Heritage.org | "In addition to being the single most expensive bill ever proposed, this measure calls for a massive expansion of the federal government's reach into the day-to-day life of virtually every citizen, business and civic organization in the nation...While the stimulative utility of the bill is, at best, questionable, it would unquestionably rewrite the social contract between the American people and their government..." Reid's Healthcare Bill by the Numbers

Accepting Reid's own numbers of spending $849 Billion "...we’re looking at a window of 7 years, which give us an average cost of $4042.85 per person, per year people are actually being insured. The average person could find a cheaper health insurance plan...and [if] the government is ready to spend $4042 per person, per year ... we multiply that number by the 12-15 million chronically uninsured, this plan would only cost between $339 billion to $424 billion, less than half the price of the Reid bill ... *NOTE: Bear in mind that CBO cost estimates on health care have never been correct, 5 years after its inception Medicare ended up costing what CBO said it would cost in 25 years."

Think Healthcare Is Expensive Now? Wait Until It's "Free"

"...It would be simpler if we all paid out of pocket, and that's what 90 percent did before World War II when, according to economist Thomas Sowell, only about 10 percent of Americans had insurance. When government took over the economy during the war it imposed wage controls, so if a company wanted to woo an employee, it offered health insurance as a fringe benefit. That's how employer-provided insurance caught on. However, many small businesses still can't afford to offer it - especially lately. Huge, third-party government bureaucracies, and private ones too, add enormously to the cost of health care..." HT TruthUSA

A Free-Market Guide to Fixing Healthcare

Picture
Here's a variety of articles compiled by the Mises Institute, an organization dedicated to free enterprise. "...It's been a steady path to medical serfdom all the way, under both parties, and this is precisely what accounts for most of the problems that people complain about. Meanwhile, the private dimensions of the healthcare system are what accounts for its merits."

Obama Care and Me (A Medicare Doctor's Perspective)

"...Forty-nine percent  of children under the age  of 16 in the state of Georgia are on Medicaid... We are being lied to about the  uninsured. They are getting care. I operate  at least 2  illegal immigrants each month who pay me nothing, and the children's hospital at which I operate charges them nothing also...approximately 5% of the current physician work force  will quit under this new  system. Also it is estimated that another 5% shortage will occur because of the decreased number of men and women wanting to go into medicine..." Great personal stories of private sources providing the funding to cover surgeries otherwise rejected or delayed too long by the government.

The Whole Foods alternative to Obamacare

"...As an alternative, [Whole Foods CEO] Mackey recommends a series of free-market ideas, including high-deductible health insurance plans and health savings accounts (HSAs), which his company has adopted..."

How American Health Care Killed My Father

A Democrat thoughtfully considers health care in a 6 part series. "...let’s reexamine our basic assumptions about health care—what it actually is, how it’s financed, its accountability to patients, and finally its relationship to the eternal laws of supply and demand. Everyone I know has at least one personal story about how screwed up our health-care system is; before spending (another) $1trillion or so on reform, we need a much clearer understanding of the causes of the problems we all experience." Part 2   Part 3   Part 4   Part 5    Part 6

Paying the price for illegal care

"...Under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, or EMTALA, hospitals can't even ask for a patient's immigration status or ability to pay prior to delivering treatment. They also can't keep such uninsured patients waiting, even if their problem isn't an emergency. Nor can they discharge them until they're fully stabilized and have safe transportation...More, hospitals must post EMTALA signs in Spanish and English...Some 80% of the births at Houston's Ben Taub General Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital are to illegal immigrants. In Fort Worth, it's about 70%..."

Thomas Sowell on whose medical decision is it?

"...One of the many phony arguments for government-controlled medical care is that Americans do not have any longer life expectancy than in other countries, despite much higher medical expenditures.

This argument is phony because longevity depends on health-- and "health care" and "medical care" are not the same, no matter how many times the two are confused in the media or in politics. Health care includes things that doctor cannot do much about....Rates of homicide, obesity and narcotics usage are higher here than in many other countries, reducing our longevity..."

Ben Shapiro explains the fallacy of a coop alternative.

"...Obama's "public option" plan was a grand attempt to sweep away all private opposition by making it more affordable for private businesses to dump all their employees on the taxpayer. His new "co-op" plan follows the Fannie Mae model for undermining public confidence in private health care. It allows the government to subsidize "co-ops" while promoting government care standards --subsidies and standards that will no doubt be overly generous in order to draw new clients..." and allow government to distance itself from future failure.

"...No third party is involved when we shop at a supermarket. We pay the supermarket clerk directly...[by contrast, most medical payments are made by third parties. Why?]...The answer for the United States begins with the fact that medical care expenditures are exempt from the income tax if, and only if, medical care is provided by the employer. If an employee pays directly for medical care, the expenditure comes out of the employee’s after-tax income...That strong incentive explains why most consumers get their medical care through their employers or their spouses’ or their parents’ employer... Just the Facts about Health Care, Ma'am! (and there are plenty!!)

Whether you agree or disagree, please read and get the facts because, trust me, the Nightly news, most papers, etc, are not providing the public with all the facts . . . . for even more articles on this subject go to the Current Issues page.

NO ONE IN AMERICA IS DENIED HEALTHCARE!!  Is everyone covered by INSURANCE?   THAT, my fellow Americans is the debate . .but not as you hear Mr. Obama or the Democrats talk about it . . .read below . . And yes the Republicans are talking about it, and have a plan, but you're not going to hear about it unless you click here <http://www.cnbc.com/id/32008145>   Thanks to Paul Ryan . . .!!  The WSJ does a great job of taking a look at how both proposals could work together. .but you will learn as you read this, the party in power really isnt interested in providing you with quality healthcare, but givng the government more power . . ..

I'm so upset to the point I might not even get out to the farmers market this morning!! Those of you who know me well understand that I never miss the farmers market!!! . . .BUT I am going to make sure that EVERYONE I KNOW is aware of just WHO they (the Democrats) really care about with this massive, 1000 page, job killing,  SENIOR CITIZEN KILLING, special needs exempting, socialized government take over of YOUR LIFE -- AND I MEAN YOUR LIFE -- and it is not you or me . .

I just heard that
the Dems in the House defeated in committee an amendment proposed by the Republicans that would use e-verify type of system to determine if someone was an illegal and if they had insurance or not . . NOT whether or not they would be eligible to receive HEALTHCARE!

POLLS SHOW THAT 80% OF AMERICANS DO NOT WANT ILLEGAL ALIENS
TO RECIEVE TAX-PAYER FUNDED HEALTH INSURANCE --  AND SOME OF THOSE AMERICANS POLLED MUST CONSIDER THEMSELVES DEMOCRATS. . . .

SO WHY DO 100% OF THE DEMOCRATS WANT TO PROVIDE IT TO ILLEGALS???!!!!!!!  THEY ARENT SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO VOTE -- OR ARE THEY . . .

AND . . .did you know that in this bill is the provision which EXEMPTS your congressmen, and retains the federal healthcare coverage as a seperate entity?  Dont know what that is?  It the complete health insurance that your elected officials get.  So when Mr. Obama, or Mrs. Pelosi says that you're going to get the same type of coverage . . .they are not telling you the truth .

PLEASE READ THESE ARTICLES TO BE INFORMED OF WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON AND NOT WHAT YOU ARE BEING TOLD IN PRESS CONFERENCES !!!

The attached article breaks down just how many people today do not have/can't afford/don't want to pay for health INSURANCE. . . . The next one covers who is paying for it and how/much . . .The one after that provides some info on what is in the plan . .if you click on those links to the bill and read , you will have done more than most of congress has. . .

Parsing Obamacare scare tactics--46 million Americans uninsured?

<http://www.examiner.com/x-16799-Collin-County-Republican-Examiner>

July 23, 10:00 PM

First, we’ll explore the assertion that there are 46 million uninsured in America, 46.7 million to be exact, about 15% of our population.   President Obama wastes no time throwing the 46 million figure all over the place and uses it as the reason we must act on passing a nationalized health care bill now.  The single-payer advocates and talk show pundits flash that same number around because it sounds powerful--it sounds large.  They do not use the 15% figure because it is easier to figure out that 15% uninsured also means 85% insured.
Regardless, the 46.7 million figure does not provide a correct picture and should not be used.  The amount of Americans who cannot afford health care is approximately
21.5 million or 7% of our population,<http://www.census.gov/prod/2008pubs/p60-235.pdf>  a much more accurate number.

President Obama says we have 46.7 million uninsured in America.  His phrasing of that statement is calculated to hide the truth.  If Obama, instead, said that we have 46.7 million Americans who cannot afford health insurance, he’d be lying:

The 9.7 million who are non-citizens (legal workers and non-legal workers) is included in the often cited 46.7 million total.  Also, the 9.1 million who earn $75,000.00 or more, who can afford medical insurance, but choose to spend their money on other things, is also included in that 46.7 million total.  Should either of those populations be included?  This is why Obama is so careful with his phrasing, instead of citing a number of Americans who cannot afford insurance, which would be much smaller, he chooses to get the most bang for his buck with a bigger number that encompasses populations it should not include.

  • There are over 9.7 million non-citizens (both illegal and legal workers) living in America who are not insured.  Take the non-citizens away and there will be 37 million uninsured, 12 percent of our population.
  • Take away the 9.1 million who can afford insurance but don’t get it from the 37 million who are American citizens and we’re left with 27.9 million Americans who can’t afford medical insurance, 9 percent of our population.
  • Then, there are the so-called Medicare and Medicaid undercounts.  The undercounts were acknowledged in the Current Population Survey (CPS).  They said that estimates of Medicaid enrollment are 43 percent lower than raw Medicaid program enrollment counts<http://healthcare-economist.com/2009/06/05/cps-undercounts-medicaid-enrollees/> .
  • Some say the government insurance undercount is as high as 6.4 million<http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commerce/2009/04/10/americas-uninsured.html> , which would mean that up to 6.4 million either don’t know they are on Medicare, Medicaid, S-CHIP, or other state insurance or that they don’t know it is considered insurance.  If we go with that amount, we can subtract the 6.4 million from the 27.9 million Americans who cannot afford health insurance.  Our new total is 21.5 million, 7 percent.
We are not discounting any other subgroups <http://www.factcheck.org/politics/the_real_uninsured.html> like young adults or those who are eligible for government health care but either do not know it or do not use it.  We just took away the non-citizens, those earning over a certain amount yearly, and the underreported.  This leaves just 7% of Americans who cannot afford health care, which means 93% of Americans can afford health care.  President Obama and the Democrats want to start yet another big government program that will require all Americans to join, will cost us trillions of dollars, and will change the face of our country for 7% of Americans who cannot afford health care.  Surely, there must be a better way.

Obviously, we have many problems with the health care system in this country.  We need reform.  We don't need to throw our freedom to choose away to get reform.

The perils of Obamacare will be a regular feature.

MORE INFORMATION ON GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE THAN YOU CARE TO KNOW<http://boortz.com/nealz_nuze/2009/07/more-information-on-government.html>By Neal Boortz@ July 21, 2009 8:06 AM

Here's a little cheat sheet for you .. a Boortz cheat sheet on the latest facts about this government healthcare scheme that you need to know! Don't think for a second that these Democrats actually care about your health or your access to clinics or your freedom to choose doctors. They don't. They care about one thing, and that is power. I know, we've covered that before. There is, though, only one real way these people stay in power: you vote for them and keep them there. So the only way these people are going to vote against this healthcare boondoggle is if you tell them that you don't support it. So here are just a few reasons to ponder ...

- Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf said "The health care overhauls released to date would increase, not reduce, the burgeoning long-term health costs facing the government,"

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31949211/ns/politics-cq_politics/> .

-"According to that assessment [from the CBO], enacting the proposal would result in a net increase in federal budget deficits of about $1.0 trillion over the 2010-2019 period."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://sweetness-light.com/archive/cbo-obama-healthcare-to-cost-1-trillion> .

-"A new report by the Lewin Group (commissioned by the Heritage Foundation) finds that the House Democrats' health care bill would shift more than 83.4 million Americans from private health care coverage to the government plan. To put that in perspective, that would mean that nearly half (48.4 percent) would lose their private health coverage."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://spectator.org/blog/2009/07/20/study-83-mln-would-lose-privat> .

-"Currently, the top rate is 35 percent. But in his budget President Obama proposed raising the top two income tax rates from 33 and 35 percent to 36 and 39.6 percent. Families in the top 20 percent of income earners already pay 94% percent more income taxes than middle-income families. The new surtaxes would extend progressivity at the top of the income spectrum and raise the disparity in taxes paid between middle- and low-income families and high-earning families."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/wm2544.cfm> .

-"In the six highest-taxed states, Oregon (11 percent top income tax rate), Hawaii (11 percent), New Jersey (10.75 percent), New York (8.97 percent), California (10.55 percent), and Rhode Island (9.9 percent), the top rates would be higher than all but Denmark among OECD countries if the Obama plan and surtax become law."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/wm2544.cfm> .

-"Under these higher taxes, families and small businesses making over $350,000 in every state would face higher top rates than 21 OECD countries--including France, Italy, and Spain. Even the nine states with no state income tax at all would have higher rates than these social democracies that are typically regarded as countries with punitively high taxes. Taxpayers in all 41 states that do levy an income tax would pay a top rate that is higher than all but seven of the 30 OECD countries."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/wm2544.cfm> .

-"The Senate version of President Obama's government health care overhaul contains a mandate that all businesses provide their employees with health insurance or pay a fine, unless the business employs fewer than 25 people. Critics say the 25-employee benchmark could stifle small business growth by prompting companies to limit themselves to 24 employees."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=51236> .

-"The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee's health care legislation will give the Health and Human Services secretary the authority to develop "standards of measuring gender" -- as opposed tousing the traditional "male" and "female" categories -- ina database of allwho apply or participate in government-run or government-supported health care plans."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=51241> .

-"More than a million small business owners and about two-thirds of the profits earned byU.S. small businesses would behitbythe income taxincrease onthe "rich"that House Democratic leaders want to enact to pay for the health-care reform plan President Obama wants passed this summer, a taxpayer watchdog says."

Here's the link<http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=50966> .

-"A survey by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) found that 20 percent of its respondents would simply shut down if they were faced with this choice of being forced to offer health insurance. They couldn't afford it. One out of four said they would replace full-time workers with part-time workers in order to avoid having to pay anything."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.miamiherald.com/opinion/editorials/story/1147098.html> .

-"According to the National Tax Foundation, the top total tax rate on Americans -- that is, state, local and federal taxes -- will top 50% in 39 states" if the Democrats pass their healthcare legislation.

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=482438> .

-"So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised -- with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won't be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers."

Don't believe me?
Here's the link<http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=332548165656854> .

-"A quick review of the legislation shows that it calls for two new government agencies, three trust funds, three advisory panels, two task forces, a research center, a medical device registry, an ombudsman and many pilot and demonstration programs."

All this sounds so wonderful, doesn't it? The same political party that brought us Social Security and Medicare is on the march again. Watch the carnage.

Shock: Inside the Healthcare Bill
Following the mad recommendations of Peter Singer<http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2009/07/obama-healthcare-step-one-killing-off.html>  made in NYT's Sunday magazine, it pays to take a look at what is actually in the healthcare bill.

It's worse than you can possibly imagine. Somehow, it manages to be Singer on steroids. Who wrote this bill. It has Singer's footprints all over it.

Peter Fleckstein (aka Fleckman) is reading it and has been posting on Twitter his findings<http://twitter.com/fleckman>. This is from his postings (Note: All comments are Fleckman's)
